not really. Tailoring is the best match for enchanting as you get easy recipes and you can disenchant the clothing for enchanting materials.

Both JC and Enchanting will cost quite a bit of money to level up + get recipes, which means you would definitely not want to do it if it's your first character or two. Once you have them up, however, expect to net in a LOAD of money whenever new gear is released.

I had a guildie who was ench/JC and he made a few hundred gold per hour the day that season 3 came out. Everyone wanted to enchant/gem their new gear, and the JCs/Enchanters were called in for their services non-stop.

Hmm, my logic may be incorrect, but JC is best paired with mining since you'll be able to use the raw materials directly, whereas if you're unable to process them, you'll be spending quite a bit at the AH for them.

Enchanting is best paired with the one other profession that doesn't require a complimentary profession to make it cheaper. This profession in tailoring.

For both of these professions you'll be required to rely on the AH for most of your raw materials. This makes both professions a high cost with a variable high reward. In my experience, and from what I've learned, these professions are best suited for players that have a high stock of gold, and are aware of the finer details of the AH.

Starting out I would take one of two choices.

a) two gathering professions: mining, herbalism, skinning. These professions offer a player a chance to quickly make 'minimal' money. Selling the raw goods at the AH will make you a medium amount of cash. I've done this for several characters, but have found that once you reach 40-50 your level'ing and money making become stagnant. I then would move to option b.

b) This option, which is inevitable, is to pick a gathering with a producing professions. Here you'll want to make sure that both professions compliment each other. Skinning-leatherwork, herbalism-alchemy, mining-blacksmithing, etc. Leveling up these 'product producing' professions take time, and a fair amount of money, but offer high reward if you stick with it.

In the end, option ‘a’ is a great way to build yourself up a reasonable amount of starter cash. You can do this fairly quickly, and barely any out of pocket expense. To get serious cash flow, (and I’m sure this is a matter of opinion), you’ll have to invest in a professions (or professions) that will product blue/purple items that are AH friendly.

In the end- professions are a matter of game play, your financial desires, and your in game experience. :)

IMO - no. You need to prospect ore to find gems, and to get the ore (if you're not a miner) you're gonna be spending loads and loads of cash (more than you'll have if this is your first toon) buying ore and this can get expensive.

Usually people take tailoring with enchanting, and usually take mining with jewel crafting.

The reason is that cloth is easy to get (all humanoid mobs drop it) and you can make simple things with tailoring that you then disenchant for mats to level up enchanting with.
